Israel has a reputation for being a bit of an
unsafe place to go for a family holiday. In
truth, that’s somewhat undeserved, though
there are certainly a few areas that it may
be best to avoid.
For the most part, however, it’s a pleasant,
interesting, and welcoming land, with much
to offer.
For those seeking a cultural visit, Jerusalem
and Bethlehem are high on the list of must-
see destinations. If you’re after something a
little more relaxing, resorts such as Eilat are
the perfect escape.
The landscape itself is worthy of exploration,
from the Galilee Highlands in the north, to
the semi-desert plateau of the Negev in the
south. Eastern Israel is dominated by the rift
valley, with the River Jordan and Dead Sea
both popular stops on the tourist trail.
Religious tourism is a major feature here, as
you would expect, but Israel’s history is long
and interesting, with many ancient sites still
well preserved and worthy of a visit.
The cities are a curious mixture of periods,
with modern shopping centres nestling up to
ramshackle bazaars. There is a wide choice
of good hotels, with excellent facilities and
decent food, so you’re sure to find one to
suit your taste and budget.
