At just 30 miles across, and 300 miles long,
its something of a mystery how so much is
crammed in to the tiny West African country
of Gambia.
Beautiful beaches, top quality hotels, lively
markets, and picturesque fishing villages line
the coast.
The capital, Banjul, has a bustling port, and
typical African market. Inland there are any
number of national parks and wetland areas
to visit, and the county’s lifeblood - the
Gambia River - is a nature lover’s paradise
with its colourful and noisy flora and fauna.
Take a leisurely canoe journey through the
mangrove swamps, where a fashion parade
of the worlds most colourful birds will parade
before you, and crocodiles will watch lazily
from their siesta on the river banks.
On the coast, endless stretches of white
sandy beaches are fanned by palms swaying
in the Atlantic breeze. With the coast facing
westwards, the sunsets on the horizon are
magical.
If you’re looking for an ‘Africa in one hit’ kind
of trip, Gambia could be the answer. It’s a
great introduction to the ‘Dark Continent’, &
and offers visitors a warm welcome, and just
enough of the essentials to keep them
coming back for more.
