Sun, sand and sea, a thousand ‘Robinson
Crusoe’ islands, huge lagoons with different
depths and infinite shades of turquoise and
blue, secreting dazzling underwater coral
Gardens. The Maldives are regarded by
many as the perfect natural combination
for the ideal tropical holiday.
However there is more to the Maldives than
just that. The capital, Male’, is one of the
smallest in the world, even though a third
of the country’s population, about 75,000
live there. In the old bazaar area, which
still houses the country’s hub of wholesale
& retail trade, the lanes are so narrow that
a single vehicle would find it difficult to get
through.
It’s the idyllic islands, which stretch though
the Indian Ocean like a string of pearls, that
draw people here from around the globe.
The Maldives are famed for their beauty. The
profusion of colours and the abundance and
variety of underwater life have fascinated
divers and snorkellers since the the islands
were discovered as a diving destination. The
spectacular colours, and clear warm waters
make diving in the Maldives a delight.
